Leading solutions for completion fluids and water management.

Hydrate Inhibition

Gas hydrate is an ice-like crystalline solid formed from a mixture of water and natural gas, usually methane.

It is formed when gas and water encounter each other at high pressures and low temperatures. Water molecules form a cage that can hold a “guest” gas molecule also known as a Clathrate Hydrate.

From effective hydrate modeling to thermodynamic hydrate inhibitors, TETRA provides the insights and inhibitors to plan for and control hydrates.

PVTsim Nova

A modeling program that allows reservoir engineers, flow assurance specialists and process engineers to combine reliable fluid characterization procedures with robust and efficient regression algorithms to match fluid properties and experimental data. The fluid parameters may be exported to produce high quality input data for reservoir, pipeline and process simulators. Depending upon wellbore conditions, various Thermodynamic Inhibitors may be applicable. These include Methanol, Propylene Glycol, and Mono Ethylene Glycol (MEG.) Key attributes follow:

  • Salts (Halide), Methanol, MEG
    • Proven technology
    • Prevents formation of hydrates at a given Temperature & Pressure
    • Custom engineered product
  • Advantages
    • Not time dependent – Long term prevention
    • Well suited for completion fluids
    • Most completion fluids have some inherent hydrate inhibition
